Fapobol was founded in 1928 with head-office in Porto, by José Pinto de Sousa, one of the pioneers of the rubber industry in Portugal. Its main activity is, since the beginning, the production of rubber articles.
In 1942, the founders of the company created in Mozambique "FACOBOL" for the production of rubber articles and in 1956 "CARBORNEL" in Guiné-Bissau.
In 1964, FAPOBOL extended its activity to the transformation of plastics (polyethylene and PVC) and flexible polyurethane foam.
In 1967 with the technical support of the German CONTINENTAL the factory of tires FAPOBOL in Portugal and in 1968 the CURBOL in Angola.
In 1971, FAPOBOL transferred the division of plastics and polyurethanes to Mindelo, keeping the rubber division in Porto.
In 1990 FAPOBOL was divided in 2 companies, the rubber plant maintaining the name FAPOBOL - Fábrica Portuense de Borracha, S.A., with the share capital of 700 000 000 escudos, which was increased in 1993 to 1 300 000 000 escudos and FAPOBOL - Fábrica de Materiais Plásticos, S. A. with a share capital of 120 000 000 escudos.
Between 1993 and 1995 FAPOBOL - Fábrica Portuense de Borracha transferred all its facilities to Mindelo, to the industrial plant where FAPOBOL - Fábrica de Materiais Plásticos was located. The production of goods with high quality requirements, directed to the automative industry, was considered a priority, having been implemented new technologies.
Pursueing its strategy for continuous improvement, Fapobol achieved in 2007 the Quality Managing Certification according the Norm NP ISO 9001.
